Our Baltic Amber necklace is made with fossilized resin from prehistoric pine trees. These tear-shaped gemstones periodically wash up on the shores of the Baltic Sea, an aquatic anomaly so famous that it comes with its own legend. The story goes like this: there was once a mermaid named Jurate who lived under the sea in an amber castle. One day, while protecting her fish, she fell in love with a sailor and took him back to her subsea property. When her father found out she was canoodling with a mere mortal he sent down a lighting bolt that destroyed her castle and killed her lover. The amber that washes up on shore is called 'Jurate's tears', and is said to be pieces of her castle. While there is no known connection between this story and the Little Mermaid, we think Ariel's amber hair can't be mere coincidence. Just look at this stuff. Isn't it neat?
